Windows Server 2016 and SQL Server 2016 compatibility with many application versions has not been announced. Shown here are several application versions and their announced, planned, or likely eligibility for Microsoft product support when running on versions of Windows Server and SQL Server.
Checked indicates combinations of versions that Microsoft announced as compatible as of Oct. 1, 2016, when Windows Server 2016 licenses became generally available in volume licensing.
Planned combinations will eventually be eligible for support according to announced Microsoft plans. (For some plans, see https://technet.microsoft.com/windows-server-docs/get-started/server-application-compatibility.)
Likely combinations have not been announced but appear likely to gain support with future application updates. Notably, Dynamics AX 2012 R3 has no announced plans for support eligibility on Windows Server 2016 and SQL Server 2016, but its product life cycle (which was recently extended through 2023) suggests that it will eventually be eligible.
