Charts & IllustrationsCALs Not in CAL Suites
Eight commonly used Client Access Licenses (CALs) are not included in either the Core CAL Suite or the Enterprise CAL Suite. All license prices listed here represent the highest price a midsized U.S. company would typically pay and are mostly taken from the Dec. 2015 U.S. Select Plus Level A price list. The cost quoted for the initial three years includes a perpetual license with three years of Software Assurance (SA), and the cost for the subsequent three years is the charge for SA renewal.
While customers must purchase the Visual Studio Team Foundation Server CAL and both Dynamics CALs with SA coverage, the other products allow a license-only purchase (at a cost of approximately 33% more than the “Cost for the Subsequent Three Years” column).
SQL Server can be licensed using a Per-Core model that does not require CALs, but historically many systems have been licensed with CALs.
