With the introduction of a Premium edition, the basic Azure Active Directory features are free, while the Premium features require a per-user subscription license. The basic features support directory synchronization, federation with other directories such as Windows Server AD, and single sign-on (SSO). The Premium features allow organizations more flexibility and control and include licenses for the Identity Manager directory synchronization and credential management software, which organizations can use on-premises. Features marked with an asterisk (*) are not supported for production use but are available in preview as of May 2014.
