Charts & IllustrationsConfiguration Manager Branch-Based Roadmap
System Center Configuration Manager offers two release and support cadences: Current Branch and Long-Term Servicing Branch (LTSB). The accompanying illustration shows likely future versions released through the end of 2019 for each cadence and the corresponding support retirement dates for each version.
Most organizations will need to deploy Current Branch versions of System Center Configuration Manager in order to obtain new management features and functionality required by updates to Windows 10, Intune, and Windows Server. (Endpoint Protection antimalware is updated along with Configuration Manager.) New Current Branch versions can be expected two to three times per year and are supported for 18 months. (All versions prior to 1710 only offered 12 months of support.) Security updates and critical updates are available only for the most recent Current Branch version. As soon as a new version becomes available, previous versions will receive only security updates for the remainder of their 18-month support periods.
