The next major release of System Center is planned with Windows Server 2012 R2 in the third quarter of 2013. A first service pack (SP1) for System Center 2012 arrived in Dec. 2012. All System Center products were updated for the release, all can run on Windows Server 2012, and all can manage Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012. Shown here are current and planned releases for products in the System Center line for client, server, and virtual machine management. Not shown is Endpoint Protection (formerly Forefront Endpoint Protection), which joined the System Center 2012 line.

Operations Manager 2012 includes AVIcode software (acquired in Oct. 2010) for monitoring .NET applications. Opalis software for IT process automation has been renamed System Center 2012 Orchestrator.

One new System Center product has been added in conjunction with SP1. Global Service Monitor, a new online monitoring tool, provides monitoring of Web application availability and performance using Operations Manager.
