Charts & IllustrationsDuration of SA Terms Under Select Plus
An initial Software Assurance (SA) term can be as short as 25 months and as long as 36 months whenever a Select Plus customer purchases a new license with SA coverage. SA is an add-on subscription for licenses that provides product version upgrades and other benefits. The accompanying diagram shows five purchases, labeled “A” through “E,” made at different times and their corresponding SA terms in Select Plus.
The initial SA term begins the month of license purchase (the customer gets charged for SA on the full month in which the order was placed), and ends right before the third subsequent affiliate anniversary. For simplicity, here it is assumed the Select Plus affiliate’s anniversary month is January. In purchase A, a license was purchased with SA coverage (“L&SA”) in Jan. 2010. Since the third subsequent affiliate anniversary is Jan. 2013, the initial SA term spans for a full 36 months, from the beginning of Jan. 2010 through the end of Dec. 2012. In purchase B, L&SA was purchased in Mar. 2010, and in purchase C in Nov. 2010, so the initial SA term lasts for 34 months and 26 months respectively.
