Charts & IllustrationsDynamics AX Overview
Dynamics AX 2009 leaves Mainstream support Apr. 14, 2015, and the next release, AX 7 (Rainier), is delayed until the second half of 2015. The Dynamics AX unit hopes to deliver updates on a more predictable schedule than in the past, shipping new features or new versions at least once a year. The unit also plans minor enhancements and bug fixes through cumulative updates (not shown) at least twice a year. Shown here are important upcoming support dates for recent versions of Dynamics AX.
New Dynamics AX features and modules generally work only with Dynamics AX 2012 or later versions. Also, Dynamics AX 2012 deprecates several technologies that are important in Dynamics AX 4.0 and 2009: The technologies are still available but not recommended for further use and slated for removal in future versions. Expertise and third-party code for the deprecated technologies will gradually dry up, which could make Dynamics AX 4.0 and 2009 installations harder to maintain over time.
The latest minor version of Dynamics AX, Dynamics AX 2012 R3, became generally available in May 2014. The release has new capabilities for warehouse and distribution functions, retail point-of-sale mobile solutions, procurement features to manage vendor requests and proposals, and budget planning improvements such as rule-based allocations and what-if scenarios.
