Dynamics AX 2012 delivers an updated platform for managing business processes. Shown here is a simplified Dynamics AX 2012 installation and the most important elements of the platform.

The Dynamics AX Windows client is required for full access to the product’s functions, and it will be the primary user interface for finance personnel and many other employees. The client provides an Office-like interface that enables end users to view and enter data and run reports based on their job roles (a feature called role tailoring). The Windows client also enables system administrators to manage the Dynamics AX platform and provides a development environment (called MorphX) that enables developers to build and revise business process code in X++, the Dynamics AX programming language.

Dynamics AX also offers a Web browser interface built on SharePoint 2010. It does not replace the Windows client; instead, it enables users to do some tasks (such as entering expense reports) themselves, rather than handing the tasks to a regular Dynamics AX user.
