Exchange Server requires purchase of licenses for server machines and clients. Each server requires either an Exchange Server 2007 Standard Edition license or an Enterprise Edition license.
Each user requires an Exchange Server 2007 Standard Client Access License (CAL). Despite the name, the Standard CAL is not tied to the Standard Edition of the server license; the Standard CAL provides the right for a user to access either edition of the server. Use of a subset of new Exchange 2007 features requires purchase of an additional license for each user, the Exchange Server 2007 Enterprise CAL.
