Charts & IllustrationsIntune Licensing Options
Windows Intune is now available with several licensing options, which offer a range of prices. Shown here are the characteristics of each subscription option, programs in which it can be purchased, and the monthly per-user cost. All options are licensed per user and cover up to five devices assigned to that user; the devices can be Windows PCs, mobile devices such as tablets or smartphones, or both.
Businesses can only purchase the lowest-cost option, the Windows Intune Add-on for System Center Configuration Manager, through an Enterprise Agreement (EA) or Enterprise Agreement Subscription (EAS). Configuration Manager and Endpoint Protection must be licensed separately.
The two higher subscription options can be purchased through the Microsoft Online Subscription Portal (MOSP), aimed at retail customers. These options include rights to use Configuration Manager and Endpoint Protection. The highest offering also allows customers to upgrade to Windows 8 Enterprise and to purchase the optional (shaded box) Desktop Optimization Pack, (a set of PC virtualization and management utilities that Microsoft calls MDOP) for an additional subscription fee of US$1 per month.
