Microsoft 365 security and management services offer different capabilities depending on the platform that is being used. This chart shows a simple score for each of the four primary client platforms supported by Microsoft 365 suites. Here, the breadth of features available for Microsoft Defender for Endpoint on each platform was compared to arrive at a score assigned by Directions on Microsoft. The explanation column provides a high-level synopsis of features available for each platform that helped determine the score. Note that full antimalware (AM) capabilities are only available for Windows and macOS clients.

For simplicity, this chart combines iOS and iPadOS. On Android, only smartphones are supported; the Microsoft Defender for Endpoint software cannot be used on any other Android devices. To date, the features of this service that are available to those two platforms are identical. Microsoft Defender for Endpoint does offer support for Linux, but is typically deployed on Linux servers, not desktops.
