Microsoft Identity Integration Server (MIIS) 2003 consists of several components for managing identity data from a variety of identity data stores.

Administrators manage identity data in MIIS via the Identity Manager graphical administration tool, the command line, or scripts, which take advantage of MIIS’s support for Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI).

Connected data sources are the directories, databases, and applications with identity data that MIIS will integrate.

Management agents link each connected data source to MIIS, and are responsible for moving data between the connected data source and MIIS. MIIS 2003 Enterprise Edition includes management agents for a large number of identity data stores, including Active Directory, Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM), Lotus Notes/Domino, Sun Directory Server (iPlanet), Oracle 8i/9i, and most enterprise resource planning and human resources applications. In addition, identity data can be moved as text files with a variety of delimiters, and custom extensions can be written to add functionality to the management agents.
