Charts & IllustrationsMilestones for Microsoft Teams Capabilities
Teams is adopting the features of Skype for Business Online, particularly in regard to calling services. This timeline summarizes recent milestones, as well as the more significant milestones planned for 2018.
Some features involving messaging and guest access are likely to arrive in the first quarter of 2018. For example, Teams will allow guest access by external users who sign in with Microsoft accounts, not just the Azure Active Directory (AAD) accounts required currently.
Several important capabilities for enterprise voice are planned for the end of the second quarter of 2018. These capabilities include hybrid connectivity between Teams and on-premises Skype for Business Server, support for third-party telephony service, and advanced enterprise voice (private branch exchange [PBX]) features such as Call Queues and Auto Attendants. A new solution for customers to bring third-party phone (public switched telephone network [PSTN]) service into Office 365 is slated for the same time, and the first preview of the Skype for Business Server 2019 software is now planned for late 2018.
