A wide variety of management packs (MPs) will be available from Microsoft and third parties when Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 ships, because existing MOM 2000 MPs can run on MOM 2005. The chart shows Microsoft’s plans for updating its MPs to MOM 2005, which is necessary to support MOM 2005 features such as State view and the new reporting system. MOM 2005 will ship with a new version of the Windows Base management pack, which covers most OS services including the .NET Framework, Active Directory, Component Services (COM+), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Group Policy, Internet Information Services, Terminal Services, and Windows SharePoint Services.

As part of the Common Engineering Criteria 2005, announced at the May Tech Ed conference, Microsoft has said that it will ship an MP for every business server product at launch. While not all server product groups at Tech Ed seemed to be fully aware of this commitment, Microsoft says it intends to bring them all up to speed on the MP requirement for future launches.
