Charts & IllustrationsNew Operator's Console
The new Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 operator’s console provides a more organized view of information reported by MOM and a quicker overview of system health than the previous combined console. The consoles design borrows from the look and feel of Outlook 2003. The left pane allows operators to select the view displayed in the center pane, and select whether to show all managed devices or to filter them by various criteria, such as only showing servers running Exchange.
In this screen shot, the center pane shows the new Diagram view, which displays a topology map showing the relationships of various servers and server groupings, with each icon coded with a health status flag. Operators can hover the cursor over an icon to see basic information about a server or double-click on any icon to see alerts and events from that system. Other choices include an Alerts view that lists unresolved alerts, what triggered each alert, and information about how to resolve it and a State view that displays a matrix of servers and the health status of the various roles running on each.
