Office 365 delivers Office software for use on-premises with Microsoft-hosted e-mail and other services. The accompanying illustration summarizes software and services licensed by the E1, E3, and E5 plans, the most commonly used Office 365 subscription suites for enterprises. Not all of the services are available for production as of Feb. 2017: some are available only to a limited group of preview customers, and some are available only in a limited set of countries.
Office
Office Online (formerly Office Web Apps) provides Microsoft-hosted applications that enable users to create and edit Office documents from a browser, without the full Office applications being installed on the client.
Office 365 ProPlus delivers Office suites for local installation on Windows PCs or Macs. (For more information on deploying Office 365 ProPlus, see the sidebar “The Office Deployment Tool“.) Office mobile application rights permit users to create and edit Office documents on iOS and Android devices for commercial purposes, using the Office applications for those platforms.
