Charts & IllustrationsOffice 365 Video
Office 365 Video provides secure Microsoft-hosted portals for viewing, sharing, discussing, and discovering an organization’s Flash and HTML5 video content. For example, it can distribute videos of executive communications, training sessions, and presentations. Office 365 Video can offer better search, navigation, and sharing than sharing videos through network drives and intranet sites. It can also leverage Microsoft’s global network of data centers and Azure Media Services infrastructure to speed video delivery to users outside of corporate networks, and it offers more organizational control than consumer-oriented services, such as YouTube.
Improvements on the roadmap include analytics for video viewing trends and patterns, a recycle bin to enable short-term recovery of deleted videos, videos with subtitles in multiple languages, and an improved upload interface. Longer term, Microsoft will apply technologies used in Office 365 Video to portals for other kinds of corporate information, such as portals for locating expertise inside organizations. Notably, Office Graph user activity data, which helps highlight relevant videos (such as the “trending” videos shown), will also help direct users to other kinds of information likely to be useful to them.
