Datacenter Services can be tailored to several levels, from basic to a complete enterprise private cloud, depending on customer needs. This diagram shows the three Datacenter Services packaged services that deliver infrastructure management services built out of the software components listed. Boxes represent Microsoft products, and ovals represent tools and services provided through Microsoft Services division.

Private Cloud Foundation delivers a management infrastructure based on out-of-the-box capabilities of Windows Server Hyper-V and System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager, App Controller, and Operations Manager. This lets customers deploy a basic datacenter with virtualization and monitoring and a self-service portal for user requests. It allows some level of automation for resource allocations such as automatic provisioning of a virtual machine (VM) in response to a user request.

Private Cloud Advanced adds management capabilities based on System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, Endpoint Protection, Data Protection Manager, Orchestrator, and Service Manager. These components can achieve high degrees of automation and rapid response to requests, lowering error rates and the number of support staff needed. An important part of this level is the Microsoft Services “Hydration” service that automates provisioning of resources through scripts and deployment templates.
