This chart outlines life cycle support dates as well as initial release and service pack histories for recent versions of BizTalk Server.

Note that BizTalk Server 2004 is not fully backward-compatible; many applications written for BizTalk 2000 or 2002 require rewrites to work on the new version. BizTalk Server 2006 and 2006 R2, in contrast, use fundamentally the same engine as BizTalk Server 2004 and thus pose fewer compatibility problems.
