Windows 2000 and Windows XP are the only fully supported Windows client OSs as of June 2004.

All support for Windows NT 4.0 Workstation ends June 30, 2004, and only security-related hotfixes are available in the meantime.

The Extended support phase for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me ends June 30, 2006. Extended support for Windows 2000 will end in 2010, rather than 2007 as originally planned, due to a May 2004 policy change.

Microsoft products are normally supported only with the most recent service pack, but customers receive one year, and sometimes two years, to migrate to that service pack. This means, for example, that Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 3 will be supported until June 26, 2004.

Windows XP Mainstream support, originally scheduled to end fairly close to the release date of Longhorn, will now end two years after that release date.
