Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003 are the only fully supported versions of Microsoft’s server OSs as of Feb. 2005. Extended support for Windows NT 4.0 Server ended Dec. 31, 2004, and support other than security-related hotfixes requires a custom support contract. No further service packs are planned for Windows 2000 before it leaves Mainstream support, but an update rollup package of high-priority bug fixes is planned for early 2005. Microsoft products are normally supported only with the most recent service pack, so customers will have to move to SP4 to get support for Windows 2000.

The Mainstream and Extended support dates for Windows Server 2003 depend on the actual availability date for Windows Longhorn Server, currently scheduled for 2007.
