  • Power BI introduces Shareable Links to simplify the sharing of reports and improve security.
  • It helps reduce workspace administration and simplify architectures.
  • The feature is rolling out in Apr. 2021 with administrative settings to disable or configure usage.

Shareable Links (shown here) allows users with sharing rights to specify who should receive a link to a Power BI report and what rights they have to the report and underlying data. In this example, a link is being sent to all users in the organization, and it allows them to further share the report.

Power BI previous report-sharing features had limited options and security controls and worked best in tightly controlled environments, where all users were assigned to specific workspaces and reports were only accessed by users in a workspace. Environments where individual reports (such as a financial summary) need to be shared with users outside of a workspace (such as executives) required extra work, often leading recipients to gain too many rights or creating extra administrative work maintaining workspace permissions.
