Beginning with the 2003 fiscal year (FY’03), which started July 1, 2002, Microsoft will report revenue in five new categories. For an overview of these categories and historical results in them for the last five quarters, see “Last Five Quarters’ Revenues by Product Line (New Categories)“.
Through FY’02, which ended on June 30, 2002, Microsoft reported revenues in the following six categories:
Desktop Applications included a variety of consumer and business applications, such as Office, Visio, Project, Great Plains, and bCentral; and Client Access Licenses (CALs) for certain of the .NET Enterprise Servers, including Windows 2000 and Exchange.
Desktop Platforms included the company’s desktop operating systems, such as Windows XP, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows NT Workstation, and Windows ME.
Enterprise Software and Services included all Windows servers; the .NET Enterprise Servers; developer tools and services; and various enterprise services, including consulting, support, and training services.
