The return on investment (ROI) of GitHub Copilot depends on several factors. These charts show scenarios based on ranges of developer pay rate per hour and the number of work hours saved per month. The charts are based on the cost of GitHub Copilot in U.S. dollars as of Aug. 29, 2024.

The charts expose a significant potential ROI (from approximately 100% to more than 1,600%) of adopting GitHub Copilot. For example, if a developer paid US$85 per hour saves three hours of work each month by using GitHub Copilot Enterprise (top right chart), the ROI is 554%:

ROI = ((3 hours x US$85) – US$39) / US$39 = 554%

Developer pay rates and hours saved could be outside of the shown ranges; however, the ranges used here are typical. ROI calculations may involve other factors not included in this analysis.

Three scenarios are shown at right:

  • Top: Adoption of the Business purchase tier of GitHub Copilot
  • Middle: Adoption of the Enterprise purchase tier of GitHub Copilot
  • Bottom: Adoption
