Charts & IllustrationsSelect Programs' Product Pool Taxonomy
Both Select Plus and Select “classic” categorize every type of product license into one of three product pools: Systems, Applications, and Servers. Listed in the chart are the most significant product licenses in each pool.
Pool designations are important for two major reasons. First, the volume discount a customer receives is determined by the aggregate purchases within each of the three product pools rather than by the customer’s overall purchases. Second, the annual fee for Software Assurance differs across pools—25% of the underlying license price for products in the Servers pool and 29% for products in the Systems and Applications pools.
Systems Pool | – Windows Professional Upgrade licenses
– Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack subscriptions – Virtual Desktop Access subscriptions |
Applications Pool | – Office Standard and Professional Plus suite licenses
– Individual Office application (e.g., Word and Excel) licenses – Visio and Project client licenses – Visual Studio developer |
