Clients running Windows will automatically settle on the lowest common version of SMB when two devices negotiate. This practice can cause a device that supports a more recent version of SMB to drop back to SMB 1 when communicating with legacy systems or devices, unless SMB 1 protocol support has been disabled or removed.
