Readers familiar with SPS 2001 may find SPS 2003 terms and concepts confusing, since many have changed or have new meanings. The columns to the left list obsolete terms or terms whose meaning has changed, and the columns to the right list the corresponding new terms and their meanings. As SPS 2003 makes extensive use of WSS, parentheses indicate whether the new term is defined by WSS or by SPS 2003.

Workspace | A virtual SPS server. Each workspace contains its own profiles, folders, categories, indexes, documents, security settings, and coordinators, allowing departments to have customized workspaces without separate SPS servers. | Site Collection (WSS) | A top level team or portal site and all of its child pages and workspaces. |
Folders | Containers for documents in a workspace, primarily used to control document security and policy rather than for organizing or classifying them. |
