SQL Server 2005 Management Studio

Illustration shows a screen shot of the SQL Server 2005 Management Studio, which replaces many of the stand-alone management tools, such as Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer, of previous SQL Server versions. The suite also replaces separate tools for managing supplemental SQL Server services, such as Analysis Services (SQL Server’s online analytical processing engine) and Notification Services (a utility for creating applications that notify users of key events or conditions in the database).

Instead of being based on the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) technology as was SQL Server 2000’s Enterprise Manager, the new Management Studio is hosted within the Visual Studio shell and inherits that product’s project-organization capabilities. The illustration shows the tool’s Object Explorer window (the left pane), which lists the servers, databases, and database objects to which the Management Studio is connected. The right pane shows a preview of a table in the AdventureWorks database.
