Charts & IllustrationsThe New Windows Team
Windows has new technical leadership as Windows Vista approaches final release. Many of the new leaders have experience in the company’s Office unit, which has had a fairly predictable release record compared to Windows. Shown here are executives at the corporate vice-presidential level and above who direct the design of Windows.
Jon DeVaan, a former Office executive, has taken over development of the Windows core and networking components from Brian Valentine. Reporting to him are Amitabh Srivastava, who leads Windows core component development as well as its test labs and software engineering technology; Ben Fathi, head of Windows security technology and the Security Response Center (and recently promoted to corporate vice president); and Jawad Khaki, longtime leader of Windows networking, who also is responsible for key device driver technologies.
Steven Sinofsky, former head of Microsoft’s Office and related businesses, now leads Windows client development. He is aided by longtime Windows program management head Chris Jones and two new managers who came from the Office organization: Grant George, who will lead testing; and Julie Larson-Green, who will lead program management. (Sinofsky also heads client-side development for the Windows Live online services.)
