Discounts are available for customers planning to run Azure SQL services for an extended period. This chart shows savings for several purchase strategies on four virtual cores of Azure SQL services over three years. The chart shows options for two tiers of Azure SQL Database service: General Purpose, which would typically be used for SQL Server Standard workloads, and Business Critical for Enterprise workloads.

The full-price option shows the three-year, pay-as-you-go cost for each tier of service. All Azure service prices quoted in this report are approximations and are for services in the West US 2 region as of Mar. 26, 2024, under Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA) pricing and based on a 730-hour month. Only Azure SQL Database charges are shown, not the costs of additional Azure data storage, input/output, data backup, and data egress services that would typically be required in a production Azure SQL Database deployment.

Reserved capacity purchases commit the customer to four virtual cores at a given tier of service for one year or three years.
