Specialized editions of the Visual Studio (VS) IDE support group development in conjunction with Team Foundation Server (TFS). Shown here are the major development tasks that each edition supports. VS Team Suite includes the features of all editions. The Professional, Standard, and Express Editions of VS do not include any of the team development features shown here.

Database Edition, an integrated development environment for database programmers and administrators, is available free with purchase of the Developer Edition, and its features are shown here for the Developer Edition. (The Developer and Database Editions’ product media remain separate, but Database Edition features can be added to a Developer Edition installation and vice versa; the developer will get a single installation with the features of both editions.) Database Edition was originally added to the VS 2005 line in early 2007 and includes tools for developing and deploying databases; equivalent tools are expected to ship in the Team System Developer (and Team Suite) editions starting with VS 2010.
