Windows Analytics is composed of three solutions for Operations Management Suite (OMS): Upgrade Readiness, Update Compliance, and Device Health. Windows devices send diagnostic or telemetry data to Microsoft for analysis, which customers can then analyze with the solutions. The analysis of this information may help organizations deploy Windows 10 and manage the ongoing operations of Windows 10 devices.

For Upgrade Readiness, an additional agent needs to be installed on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 devices to collect sufficient data. With Windows 10 devices, built-in processes that are part of the Connected User Experience and Event Tracing for Windows collect and transmit diagnostic and configuration data to Microsoft. The telemetry data is tagged with a unique organization specific ID so that when the data is collected through the various telemetry data collection endpoints, the data specific to the organization can be loaded into that organization’s OMS workspace. Once in the organization’s OMS workspace, the Windows Analytics solutions can use Log Analytics to analyze the data and provide insights to the state of the organization’s devices.
