Deployment of Windows 10 using the Windows AutoPilot Deployment Service (AutoPilot) requires three stages (top row), and tasks in each stage are performed by different roles (fourth column): the organization’s IT department, the user, the OEM, and AutoPilot and a Mobile Device Management (MDM) service, such as Intune.

The basic AutoPilot workflow, using Intune for MDM, is as follows:

1. IT sets up the necessary hosted services, including the Windows Store for Business, AutoPilot, Azure Active Directory (AD), and Intune and creates deployment profiles and an organization portal. Most of these tasks, with the exception of creating and editing profiles, will be performed only once.

2. The user orders a device from the OEM.

3. The OEM sends the Device ID(s) to IT and sends the device to the user.

4. IT loads the Device ID(s) into AutoPilot.

5. The user unpacks the device and powers it on. The user begins the setup process by selecting a language and keyboard and then connecting to the network.
