Windows Server 2003 prices are similar to those for Windows 2000. Most notable is the new Windows Server 2003 Web Edition priced at less than half the Standard Edition but licensed exclusively for use as a Web server, and only available through OEM, System Builder, and volume licensing channels. The Terminal Services (TS) External Connector price has been lowered by US$2,000. In addition, Microsoft has introduced per-user client licensing options, broadened its definition of “external user” for the External Connectors (which were formerly called Internet Connectors), and tightened TS CAL requirements. These changes could affect organizations’ licensing costs even though prices have not changed.
