Stand-alone SharePoint Online Plans 1 and 2 and OneDrive for Business Plans 1 and 2 are retiring by Dec. 2029 due to low demand and high operating costs, according to Microsoft. The plans are phasing out on the following schedule:

  • June 2026: Renewals for existing customers only; no new tenants/customers after May 31, 2026
  • Jan. 2027: No renewals; existing contracts continue until expiration
  • Dec. 2029: Service ends; all stand-alone plans fully retire.

After retirement, the only option for using those services will be to transition to Microsoft 365 suites.

New options using capacity packs or pay-as-you-go storage may become available, but there are no details yet. Customers not continuing with Microsoft Services must migrate their data to another service or bring the data in-house, prior to retirement.

The retirement of stand-alone SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business plans is included in the Microsoft Partner Center’s “January 2026 announcements” (Microsoft).
