Kits & CollectionsOptimizing for Windows as a Service
Kit Overview
New versions of the Windows client OS become generally available once a year via the General Availability Channel (GAC). However, under its program of “continuous innovation” for the Windows Client OS, Microsoft releases intermittent updates called “moments” or “experience updates” throughout the year.
Security updates (which Microsoft calls Quality Updates) are generally available on the second Tuesday of each month (Patch Tuesday). The output of all these update sources means organizations must deal with the continual stream of updates Microsoft calls Windows as a Service (WaaS).
This Optimizing Windows as a Service kit is a collection of Update reports, Microsoft On-Premises Software Roadmap, Microsoft 365 Roadmap, and Licensing Reference Set entries to help organizations optimize for the continual stream of updates for the Windows Client OS that Microsoft calls Windows as a Service. The kit explains why organizations should adopt rather than fight the fast update cadence
