Upcoming changes to the service in the near and long term include:

Near Term (2024–2025)

Microsoft Entra ID updates in preview and recently released include:

  • Self-service password reset audit logging improved

  • Temporary access pass (TAP) support for internal guest users

  • Preview of Security Copilot integrated into Entra

  • Provision custom security attributes from HR sources

  • Custom URL domains for Entra External ID to improve usability

Long Term (Beyond 2025)

Microsoft Entra ID will likely receive improvements including the following:

  • Increased emphasis on passkeys and other password-free authentication options 

  • Improved monitoring and reporting

  • Few major feature enhancements other than for the Entra ID Governance
