Analyst ReportMicrosoft Fabric GA – Nov. 2023 – Promising, Not Complete
- Microsoft Fabric is a data analytics cloud service, mostly based on existing services, but with significant changes to work processes and other features.
- Fabric’s integrated design can reduce the complexity of deploying and managing the previous services and shared capacity licensing can help control cost.
- Fabric also introduces new collaboration and data-sharing features that are significantly better than using the previous services separately.
- Migration difficulty varies by component, but there is no immediate need to migrate or perform a wholesale migration.
Microsoft Fabric is a new data analytics offering, generally available in Nov. 2023, that is based on new versions of several existing Azure services and Power BI. Fabric combines the services as a cohesive offering, which simplifies purchasing, deployment, data sharing, and integration, while also providing a secure collaboration environment where developers can still work with specialized tools to perform their part of an analytics workload. Although generally available (GA), not all features are complete or supported for production; therefore, customers are advised to be selective about what features they use for production workloads.
