  • The Teams client app will retire support for several older versions of the Android mobile OS in 2022.
  • Customers using Teams on older Android devices may need to purchase new devices with supported Android OS versions.
  • These retirements bring Teams support for Android more in-line with support for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

In Oct. 2021, Microsoft announced the retirement of Teams mobile support for Android 5, 6, and 7 on a phased schedule over 2022. Android 12 is the latest version of Google’s OS for mobile devices. (For details, see the chart “Teams Android Support Retirement Timeline.”) Going forward, the Teams client app will support only the four most recent major versions of Android. This change aligns Teams mobile support for Android with support for Apple’s iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

Unsupported versions of the Teams mobile app will receive no further development, bug fixes, or security updates. While they may continue to be used to connect to the Teams hosted service, Microsoft does not guarantee they will be able to do so, and they may become vulnerable to unpatched security issues. Users connecting to Teams through mobile clients more than one year old will begin to receive notices to upgrade to the newest version.
