A major wave of systems management releases in 2011 follows the first service pack for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Shown here are current and planned releases for products in the System Center line for server and virtual machine (VM) management.

Configuration Manager 2007 R3 was released in Oct. 2010. Beta versions of Configuration Manager 2012 and Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) 2012 became available in Mar. 2011. A beta for Operations Manager 2012 is expected in the first half of 2011; it will include AVIcode software (acquired in Oct. 2010) for monitoring .NET applications. Final releases of all three products are expected in the second half of 2011.

Two new System Center products were announced: a new VM management tool (code-named System Center Concero) provides self-service management of VMs using VMM technology, and System Center Advisor (previously code-named Atlanta) provides online monitoring of Windows Servers and SQL Servers. Both will be released in the second half of 2011.
