System Center Product Names

The System Center product line supports computer and network configuration, monitoring, analysis, and other administrative tasks. For the 2012 versions, the System Center brand has been extended to more products and some products have received name changes. For example, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 has officially been replaced by System Center 2012 Configuration Manager. In this report, however, the older-style naming is retained to help distinguish between versions of the products; for example, Configuration Manager 2012. Note that Microsoft commonly uses other acronyms for these products; for example, SCCM, SCOM, SCVMM, etc. System Center 2012 products that manage servers are not available separately but must be licensed as part of a suite as indicated below. (There are, however, several ways to license System Center to manage clients.) Current and planned System Center products are as follows:

  • Advisor (previously code-named Atlanta)
  • App Controller* (previously code-named
