Communications Server and Live Meeting continue to evolve rapidly. The Communications Server 2007 product gained major improvements, including new Web conferencing capabilities inherited from the Live Meeting service, and will likely receive at least one service pack and another major release in the next three years. Microsoft’s Speech Server product will be discontinued in Dec. 2007, but the technology has been merged into Communications Server 2007. Communicator client releases are timed to coincide with Communications Server versions. In the fourth quarter of 2007, the Live Meeting Web conferencing service gets support for two-way Internet voice and video. In Oct. 2007, Microsoft began to offer Communications Server as a hosted service to organizations with 5,000 seats or more.

A service pack is likely for Communications Server in 2008, although none has been announced. Microsoft will also update the Hosted Messaging and Collaboration (HMC) solution, which enables service providers to host Communications Server in multitenanted installations.
