Analyst ReportAmalga Healthcare Software Released
A healthcare application that Microsoft acquired in 2006 has now been released for sale in Europe under the Microsoft Amalga brand. Developed by Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., and previously known as Azyxxi, Amalga integrates data from disparate hospital databases and makes it available to healthcare professionals, preventing situations where data has been collected by one hospital department or system but is not available to others.
Microsoft announced Amalga’s availability at a European healthcare conference and said other components of the Amalga family of healthcare products—a hospital information system called Amalga HIS, and a radiology and imaging system called Amalga RIS/PACS—are also available. Both of those products were acquired from Global Care Solutions, which originally developed them for hospitals in Asia.
Unlike most Microsoft software, the Amalga family of products is sold directly by Microsoft, rather than through partner channels, and pricing is typically negotiated separately for each deal.
