Analyst ReportAntimalware Updating Process Changed
Updates to Endpoint Protection antimalware products will be delivered through Microsoft Update, and organizations can deploy them the same way they deploy other software, for example, using Configuration Manager. In addition, a new feature in the products will alert users to approaching the end of support for OSs, allowing them to take action before they are left unprotected against malware. The changes, which take effect Apr. 8, 2014, will streamline antimalware software updating procedures but could generate some help desk calls.
Antimalware Delivered Through Microsoft Update
Endpoint Protection antimalware software detects and removes viruses, worms, Trojans, adware, and spyware from Windows PCs and servers. The software, which began as Forefront Client Security, was renamed Forefront Endpoint Protection (FEP) in 2011 and System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP) in 2012. Both Endpoint Protection products use essentially the same antimalware protection engines, which are updated occasionally, and the same antimalware signatures, which are updated daily.
