Archiving, Retention, and EDiscovery
Office 365 is receiving Microsoft’s latest technology for archiving, retention, and eDiscovery and extending its reach to content in more sources and to additional parts of the eDiscovery process. Archiving, retention, and eDiscovery are important parts of legal and policy compliance in many organizations. Office 365’s technology for these tasks could be attractive because Office 365 is an important source of content, and it offers scalable storage for data archived from other sources. However, organizations concerned with compliance might be unable to store some types of data in Office 365, and Office 365 itself might be changing too fast for its own content management capabilities.
Exchange and SharePoint Archiving, Retention, EDiscovery
Office 365 currently offers technology for archiving, retention, and eDiscovery in its Exchange Online and SharePoint Online services. Archiving and retention preserve and manage the time an organization’s mail, documents, and other data are retained, in accordance with legal requirements and corporate policy. EDiscovery gathers, preserves, and delivers electronic content for evidence in legal cases and typically must be integrated with an organization’s archiving and retention processes.
