Azure App Service, currently in preview, will replace separate Azure Platform as a Service offerings for Web applications, mobile applications, and Web services. It also will host application integration systems like those built with BizTalk products today. App Service will be available for deployment in Microsoft data centers, on-premises, and in third-party data centers. It promises broader choice of tools and other advantages compared to existing .NET and BizTalk technologies, and it simplifies pricing and capacity planning compared to the separate Azure services it will replace. However, pricing is still complex, and BizTalk customers have reasons to be cautious.

This report is an updated version of the report “Azure Central to Server-Side Development and Integration,” which originally appeared on page 9 of the Feb. 2015 Update. This version incorporates new brand names (including Azure App Service) and summarizes information released with the Mar. 2015 preview of App Service.
