  • The free Azure Cost Management service provides customizable reports that can help customers analyze, optimize, forecast, and find anomalies in Azure spending.
  • Updates include features that help allocate Azure spending across internal groups and extend reporting to Microsoft 365 and other clouds for some customers.
  • Many of the features are in preview, some of which have been long-running.

Organizations should regularly review updates delivered in the Azure Cost Management (ACM) service for potential improvements that it could bring to Azure spending management processes.

Understanding the Azure Cost Management Service

ACM is a service available automatically within Azure subscriptions without customer provisioning. It builds charts and tables from Azure resource usage and billing data, price rates, and other metadata. ACM can assist in identifying trends, such as inefficient or problematic usage of resources that is causing unnecessary costs. Organizations can use the service to produce reports for internal departments or teams to facilitate funding processes and accountability details for Azure usage.
