Analyst ReportAzure Dedicated Host Previews Single-Tenant VM Hosting
- Azure Dedicated Host, in preview, allows customers to rent dedicated physical servers to host their Azure VMs.
- It offers limited choice over physical server configuration and some control over scheduling of maintenance events.
- The service could be of interest to customers with regulatory requirements for physical isolation of compute resources.
- Microsoft licensing changes will favor Dedicated Host over competitor offerings.
Azure Dedicated Host enables customers to rent Azure VM host servers that are dedicated to their Azure subscriptions. Unlike standard Azure VMs hosted on shared infrastructure, Azure VMs deployed to Dedicated Host servers are physically isolated from those of other Azure customers. This isolation could benefit customers with contracts or regulations that require physical isolation of computing resources. Licensing changes that start to phase in on Oct. 1, 2019, could make Dedicated Host less costly than competing dedicated host providers.
