Analyst ReportAzure DevOps Server 2022 Upgrades Platform Support
- Azure DevOps Server 2022 will work with the latest Windows Server version, enabling organizations to upgrade servers.
- Support for Azure SQL Managed Instance is added.
- Customers may need to re-create reports due to the elimination of a SQL Server Reporting Services feature.
- Azure DevOps will remain supported and receive updates for many years, but it will eventually be supplanted by GitHub.
Azure DevOps Server 2022 is the third on-premises version of the application life-cycle management software that was previously branded Team Foundation Server.
Enhancements in the New Version
Enhancements to the technology appear first in Azure DevOps, a hosted service based on the same technology. Azure DevOps Server releases roll up new features from the service with security updates and bug fixes for self-hosted deployments. Azure DevOps Server 2022 improvements over the previous version, 2020, include the following:
Delivery Plans 2.0. Delivery Plans presents detailed scheduling views (similar to Gantt charts) of work items across sprints, primarily for teams using Agile methodologies. Delivery plans is part of the Boards collaboration component and is separate from the Boards Kanban chart tools, which are focused on the states of work items as they move from a backlog through completion. (For an illustration, see “Azure DevOps Server Delivery Plans Compared to Kanban.”) Delivery Plans has been available in the Azure DevOps service and in Azure DevOps Server as a Delivery Plans 1.0 extension, and Delivery Plans 2.0 provides automatic migration from 1.0. Delivery Plans 2.0 improves on the 1.0 extension with enhancements such as support for more teams and backlogs, multiple zoom levels for views, dependency tracking, and custom card styles.
