Azure Machine Learning, a service that became available as a public preview in July 2014, allows customers to perform statistical algorithms on data to draw conclusions based on known results in similar data. This predictive analytics capability can be used for many purposes, such as determining product recommendations, equipment maintenance requirements, and financial credit scores. The service provides tools to work with large data sets to construct, perform, and publish analytics mechanisms without writing code, while eliminating the need to purchase costly hardware and software traditionally required to implement machine learning. However, expertise in the field is likely needed for the best results.

Wide Range of Applications

Machine learning, a field that produces processes in which computer systems can improve their outcomes or make predictions based on data inputs, has been studied and used for several decades. Azure Machine Learning encapsulates many of the complex mathematical models required for machine learning implementations (such as those used by Bing and Xbox Live) to reduce the overhead and costs of leveraging theories and large data sets to perform predictive analytics.
